Masterson’s Lounge, located in the heart of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my most recent experience at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I experienced behind its walls was disturbing and far below any standard .
Cleanliness Issues : Squalid and Disregarded
From the moment I walked in , it was immediately obvious that hygiene was not a priority at this establishment . The floors were sticky , and a nauseating aroma of decaying beverages and uncleaned toilets polluted the entire venue . Smelling a mixture of ammonia , a rotting odor and illness . The counter , which should be the focal point of any pub, was overflowing with soiled cups and trash that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The lavatory was in even more deplorable shape — clogged , with a broken handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was feces.
It wasn’t just a one-off bad night either. After reading through multiple accounts and speaking with locals , it seems that the state of cleanliness (or lack thereof) at this pub is a well-known flaw . Many visitors have reported spotting critters darting across the bar area and signs of rats in the basement . For a business that serves drinks , these issues are entirely inappropriate and raise serious concerns about the sanitation of their offerings.
